Grand Central Station

I spent about 3 hours sketching people at Grand Central Station a few rainy days ago. I started with the people standing on line to purchase tickets and then headed for the stairway. I had lots of fun doing these and hope to go back again during rush hour. How ever next time I think I'm gonna walk home. For the 2 or 3 people that visit my blog enjoy!

NOTE to self: Most people where holding some sort of electronic device weather it be a cell phone or black berry etc. And it wasn't all business. Many people where talking to family members. One lady was telling her son the 3 basic steps to make ravioli. A gentleman was suggesting to his friend that she should make a contract with her son that when he turns 18 that he needed to sign it and to abide by the rules of the house. "Oh and one more thing, you need to get your self a career." One guy just lost it on line. There was really only 3 or 4 people a head of him and he was so upset. "Ahh come on." "Can you believe this." "Jesus H." Very funny to see this little man get all bent out of shape looking around to see if others could relate to his turmoil.

You know, I've been to the grand central station tons and tons of times commuting to work, but never found the time to sketch there yet.

These are great. I can totally relate to this post. Great poses and gestures.

Robert, you inspire me always. I love drawing the folks at Grand Central Station and I wish my drawings had the energy and rhythm that yours possess. I get too caught up in minutia and detail and these have a fresh gestural approach with enough detail to relay everything I need to know about the figure and the moment. Really well done!

I also love what you talk about when it comes to observing the specifics of body language and capturing that exact way different people hold on to the railing. These kinds of details are so important to me in saying something about people and how we translate them into characters. Really nice stuff!

Really thoughtful comments fellas.

enb- Ian: You make it look so damn easy. Is there anything you can't do well?

Saigonradio- Peter: Your work is just fantastic man. I'm just trying to catch up with you.
Go DrawForce!!!

Peter Emmerich- Peter thanks for your kind words. Your observational studies are so funny. Life is diverse, and your perfectly able to capture it in your Emmerichian style. Some times the details make up the whole.

Hah, funny report on NY commuters-man, you chose a tough environment to draw in! It's hard to observe people WITHOUT some kind of portable, electronic device these days huh?

Really good sketches-keep it up-
