IRON GIANT 7/11/97
Every now and then I hear people talking smack about the Iron Giant.
SHAME ON YOU ALL
Here is my 2 bits,,,
Dream Works came around and said this time it's gonna be different. "We are going to break the Disney mold with Prince of Egypt." Sure. OK so they showed some blood but that was it. And I got to tell you, it wasn't the blood that made me want to vomit.
Warner Bros. said the same thing. Only problem was the last three of four films they put out was,,, lets just say not very good. So why should I go see this one. For starters Brad Bird directed it and being a student at SVA, I saw some pencil test animation of Hogarth. I loved the way he was animated and the modern kid attitude they gave him. I purchased a matinee ticket for 5 bucks for safety in case it was a flop and boy was I wrong. I went back about 5 times or so.
Here is a little dialog from the film,,,
The Iron Giant screenplay by
Tim McCanlies and Brad Bird;
Draft by Brent Forrester and Brad Bird;
Screen Story by Brad Bird
Hogarth: Things die. It's part of life. It's bad to kill, but it's not bad to die.
Giant: You die?
Hogarth: Well, yes. Someday.
Giant: I die?
Hogarth: I don't know. You're made of metal. But you have feelings. And you think about things, and that means you have a soul. And souls don't die. . . . Mom says it's something inside—all good things. And that it goes on forever and ever.
Giant: Souls don't die.
